Nature Center

The cornerstone of the environmental education program is the Mobley Nature Center. Members and guests can browse through the varied collection of natural artifacts and live animals. The Nature Center also has a diverse collection of books in the library. On the back side of the nature center is a butterfly garden that contains an array of attractive and beneficial plants.

The Habitat Workshop

The Trust’s Habitat Workshop is a one-day program that gives homeowners an overview of landscaping and living with nature on Spring Island. The program includes tours of home sites that illustrate the ways in which the Spring Island philosophy can be expressed through a home’s landscaping.

The Master Naturalist Program

To date, approximately 750 people have completed the LowCountry Institute’s very popular Master Naturalist program. The course uses experiential learning to teach participants about the ecology of southeastern coastal habitats and the role humans can play in being stewards of these unique environs.

The Coastal Kingdom TV Series

The LowCountry Institute and Beaufort County Channel produce the Coastal Kingdom series, which is shown on SCETV and other education channels. This progr am showcases lowcountry habitats as well as the animals and plants that live here. Many of the episodes include segments shot on Spring Island.
