By understanding the natural landscape, residents are able to better appreciate the flora and fauna as well as make informed decisions that will promote the conservation and protection of the habitats, inhabitants, and natural resources of the region. The Trust’s mission of preserving nature on Spring Island and serving as a resource to other regional communities who wish to do the same cannot be completed without robust educational programs. The purpose of the Trust’s education programs is to foster a sense of community and teach residents about the special place they call home. Education programs are an essential piece to maintaining a community’s sense of place and fostering a culture of conservation.

Trust Talks are lectures held weekly on Thursday evenings on a variety of topics – including history, science, art, culture, and wellness. Speakers come from all over the country for these special programs which are a foundation of the Spring Island culture – there’s no better place for a member to see their neighbors’ faces all in one room!
The Spring Island Trust Native Plant Project (NPP) is a volunteer-led project established in the spring of 2009. The volunteers are Spring Island members and the facilities are located on Spring Island. The mission of the Spring Island Trust Native Plant Project is to rescue, propagate and distribute native plants and to provide education about how to use them in the landscape. Plants and education are made available to the public through native plant sales which are open to the public and the Native Plant Project website.
